Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2–3 medium bananas)
- 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce, divided
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan for your homemade salted caramel banana bread.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. This is the dry mixture for your moist salted caramel banana bread.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the mashed ripe bananas and sour cream (or yogurt) to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix the salted caramel banana bread batter.
- Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle about 1/4 cup of the salted caramel sauce over the batter, then swirl it gently with a knife.
- Pour the remaining banana bread batter over the caramel layer. Drizzle the remaining 1/4 cup of salted caramel sauce on top and swirl again for a beautiful banana bread with caramel swirl.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center of the salted caramel banana bread comes out clean.
- Let the salted caramel banana bread loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For an extra treat, consider a salted caramel banana bread with cream cheese frosting or a banana bread salted caramel topping. Enjoy this sweet and salty banana bread!
Notes
- Ensure your bananas are very ripe for the best flavor and sweetness in your homemade salted caramel banana bread.
- Do not overmix the batter; overmixing can lead to a tough loaf.
- Store leftover salted caramel banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- This recipe can also be adapted for salted caramel banana bread muffins; adjust baking time accordingly.
- For a richer flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dry ingredients for your best salted caramel banana bread.
