Description

Apple Cinnamon Swirl Loaf is an easy and delicious recipe that fills your kitchen with the warm aroma of baked apples and cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups (330g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, very cold, ½-inch cubes
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • ¾ cup (180ml) whole milk, cold
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples (300g), peeled, cored, finely diced
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons whole milk or heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with greased parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter cubes to dry ingredients. Cut in until mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized butter pieces.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk beaten egg, cold milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  5. Pour wet ingredients into dry mixture. Fold gently with a spatula until just combined (do not overmix).
  6. Turn dough onto a floured surface. Knead gently 8-10 times until it forms a cohesive ball. Form into a disk, wrap, and chill for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Peel, core, and finely dice apples (¼ to ½-inch pieces).
  8. In a medium bowl, combine diced apples, ¼ cup sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, lemon juice, and optional nutmeg. Stir well.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll chilled dough into a 16×10-inch rectangle.
  10. Evenly spread apple cinnamon filling over dough, leaving a ½-inch border on one long edge.
  11. Tightly roll dough from the opposite long edge into a log. Pinch seam closed and tuck in ends.
  12. Carefully transfer the log, seam-side down, into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until deeply golden and a skewer inserted comes out clean (internal temp 200-210°F). Tent with foil if needed.
  13. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then lift out using parchment and cool completely on a wire rack.
  14. Whisk powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk/cream, and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
  15. Drizzle glaze over the completely cooled loaf. Let set for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
