- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- For Optional Cream Cheese Glaze:
- 2 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp milk (or cream)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Wash, peel, and core the apples. Then, slice them into uniform sticks, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and 3-4 inches long. Gently pat the apple slices dry with a towel to remove excess moisture.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar (or coconut sugar), ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- In a separate large bowl, drizzle the olive oil (or melted coconut oil) over the dried apple sticks. Toss gently until each piece is lightly and evenly coated with oil.
- Sprinkle the dry spice and flour mixture over the oiled apples. Toss and mix thoroughly until every apple stick is evenly coated with a thin layer of the mixture.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes.
- Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary for optimal crispiness.
- Air fry for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket vigorously every 4-5 minutes, until the apple fries are tender on the inside, golden brown, and wonderfully crispy. If needed, cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to reach peak crispiness.
- For the optional cream cheese glaze: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk (or cream), and vanilla extract. Whisk until completely smooth and drizzly. Adjust consistency with a touch more milk or powdered sugar if needed.
- Serve the Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries immediately, piping hot, drizzled with the optional cream cheese glaze or served on the side for dipping. Garnish as desired.
- Store any cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. To reheat, air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes, shaking once or twice, until warmed through and re-crisped.
