Description

A comforting Apple Butter Pie with a smooth, custardy filling baked in a spelt crust, seasoned with warm spices. A perfect dessert for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 (9-inch) spelt pie crust
  • 1 ¾ cups (470g / 17oz) apple butter
  • 1 cup (226g) heavy cream
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup (110g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Pinch ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Position a rack in the lower third of the oven.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the apple butter, heavy cream, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Pour the prepared filling evenly into the 9-inch spelt pie crust.
  4. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the center of the pie is set and a knife inserted near the edge comes out clean. The top should be lightly golden.
  5. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack for at least 2-3 hours before slicing and serving. This allows the filling to set properly.
