Description

Gordon Ramsay’s Cottage Pie features savory minced beef and a creamy mashed potato topping. It’s perfect for family dinners or impressing friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g Lean ground beef
  • 1 Chopped onion
  • 2 Diced carrots
  • 2 Minced garlic cloves
  • 250ml Low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1kg Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 50g Butter
  • 100ml Milk
  • 100g Grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Peel and chop the Yukon Gold potatoes into even chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
  3. Add butter and milk to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Once hot, add the chopped onions and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Then, add minced garlic and diced carrots, cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  6. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and any additional seasonings (like thyme or bay leaves). Let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture into a baking dish. Spread the creamy mashed potatoes over the top, smoothing it out with a spatula. For added texture, use a fork to create peaks in the potatoes.
  8. If using, sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese evenly over the mashed potatoes.
  9. Place the cottage pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
  10. Allow the pie to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
