Crispy Homemade Mozzarella Sticks Recipe You’ll Love!
Ingredients
- Part-skim mozzarella cheese
- String cheese sticks (optional)
- Italian-style breadcrumbs
- Regular breadcrumbs (optional)
- Panko breadcrumbs (optional)
- All-purpose flour
- Almond flour (gluten-free option)
- Gluten-free flour blend (gluten-free option)
- Eggs
- Flaxseed meal mixed with water (vegan option)
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Salt
- Pepper
- Italian herbs (oregano or basil, optional)
Instructions
- Start by cutting your mozzarella cheese into thick sticks, about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide.
- In three separate bowls, place flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and a mixture of breadcrumbs and seasonings in the third.
- Take a mozzarella stick, coat it in flour first, ensuring it’s completely covered. Shake off any excess flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing the excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure it adheres well. Repeat this for all cheese sticks.
- For the crispiest results, place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes.
- In a deep frying pan or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully add a few sticks at a time to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 1-2 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Enjoy your crispy homemade mozzarella sticks immediately while they’re still warm. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping!
