- 8 slices of bread (white or whole grain)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cut the slices of bread into cubes and place them in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
- Stir in the diced onions and half of the shredded cheese and cooked bacon into the egg mixture.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes. Gently mix until all the bread is coated.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the bread mixture. Then sprinkle with the remaining bacon and cheese. Top with the rest of the bread mixture to create an even layer.
- Place the baking dish in the oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once baked, allow the strata to cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
- For a touch of color and freshness, sprinkle chopped parsley on top.
- Cut into slices and serve warm.
