Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (white or whole grain)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the slices of bread into cubes and place them in a large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  4. Stir in the diced onions and half of the shredded cheese and cooked bacon into the egg mixture.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes. Gently mix until all the bread is coated.
  6. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the bread mixture. Then sprinkle with the remaining bacon and cheese. Top with the rest of the bread mixture to create an even layer.
  7. Place the baking dish in the oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, allow the strata to cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
